Can You Train for a Half Marathon Running 3 Days a Week?

Yes, three running days can be enough for many first-half-marathon runners. The trade-off is that each run needs a clear purpose and the gaps between them need to support recovery, not guilt.

Give each run a job

A simple three-day structure often includes an easy run, a purposeful steady or quality session, and a long run. The exact sessions should depend on your background and goal rather than a generic calendar.

Avoid turning all three runs into hard efforts. Easy running is where much of the repeatable work happens.

Make the non-running days useful

Rest, walking, mobility, and strength work can all support a running plan. They do not need to become a second training project. The goal is to arrive at your next run able to do it well.

Protect the long-run rhythm

The long run is often the anchor for a first half marathon. Put it on the day that is most dependable, then arrange the other runs around it. A routine you can repeat is more valuable than an ideal schedule you cannot keep.
